Having spoken to a good number of Rhino for Mac users, many of whom were using underpowered hardware with disappointing results, we decided to create a matrix of the current Mac products that are most suited to the more demanding Rhino for Mac user.

However, both products are scheduled to be replaced with Apple Silicon based machines and, particularly if you are using other software with Rhino, then you may be better off waiting for the Apple Silicon based machines. This leaves the higher specified Intel machines including the 16” MacBook Pros and 27” iMac which, of course, will run Rhino natively and, dependant on model, can be configured with a good amount of RAM and dedicated graphics cards.

There are however, some limitations with the existing M1 based machines including limited screen size and a maximum RAM ceiling of 16GB. Using Rosetta is essentially a ‘stop-gap’ until Rhino can be made to work natively on Apple Silicon and this is unlikely to happen before Rhino 8.Īlthough not a native application, McNeel report that Rhino runs well on the M1 processor, and the performance is better than the similarly specified (lower end) Intel processors. Apple’s Rosetta Translation Environment attempts to automatically translate Intel applications to run on Apple Silicon. Please note that this implementation is not native but uses Apple’s Rosetta 2. Rhino 7 for Mac is supported on Apple Silicon Macs with M1 processors running macOS Big Sur 11.3 onwards. The first products to feature Apple Silicon are the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro 13” and iMac 24” with the M1 processor. Going forward all new Apple Mac laptops and desktops will be built on versions of Apple Silicon rather than using Intel technology. He's going in the right direction.Apple currently produces and sells machines with ‘Apple Silicon’ and ‘Intel’ processors. If he can get a bit of tempo in a race with a bunny to follow, that would be even better. "He feels like a horse who can sustain a gallop. "He does get keen in his races and every start we've wanted to take a sit on and see if he could attack the line, but he just begins so well out of the gates and he's just been in races where there's been no speed. "He does everything pretty right," Childs said. Jordan Childs was having his third-consecutive ride on Rhinoceros and suggested he will be suited by a greater-sized field for the VRC Derby Trial. Rhinoceros ran fourth in a Cranbourne maiden over 1400m before backing up seven days later at Sale and finishing second to Sharper over 1529m. "Today, she was just determined and didn't want another horse to get near her, which is a great feeling."īarb Raider's overall time was 0.3s slower than Rhinoceros ($4.40 favourite), who ran the mile in 1:38.50 on the Good 4 surface, winning by 1.25 lengths from the eye-catching Blackcomb ($5.50). "I actually waited for quite a long time (to go for home) because the only time she got to the front in her races was on pulling up and when she got in front you can see why she's got headgear and needs a pony - she looks around for things," said winning jockey Craig Williams. WATCH: Barb Raider wins at Sandown Hillsideīarb Raider ($2.60 favourite) raced outside the leader Rarzino ($41) and took over with 400m remaining, running her last 400m in 22.22 seconds.

"We've had a long-term plan and today, it cemented what we've always thought of her," Barb Raider's trainer Jerome Hunter said, confirming plans to proceed to the VRC Oaks Trial. Both of Wednesday's winners, along with several beaten runners, are anticipated to race in those $75,000 events. Only a few seasons ago the Victoria Racing Club created Spring Classics Preview Day, a late-September mid-week fixture which includes VRC Derby and VRC Oaks Trials over 1800m. Less than an hour later Barb Raider, a daughter of 2008 VRC Derby winner Rebel Raider, was brilliant in scoring by 3.5 lengths off a sit-sprint tempo.

Rhinoceros, a colt by Vadamos, led throughout at his third Australian start for Kiwi trainers Emma-Lee and David Browne. Rhinoceros and Barb Raider will be prepared for Classic trials at Flemington in a fortnight after winning their first races over 1600 metres at Sandown Hillside on Wednesday.
